Every July Team Mexia gets together for our annual MexReady conference and after party – which is quickly becoming our most epic and anticipated event of the year, rivalling our legendary Christmas parties. We gather the team in one central location to reflect on the previous financial year, align strategy for the next FY, catch up with our team and of course, have a lot of fun along the way! This year, the conference was held at our new Melbourne HQ.
The day started with a delicious breakfast and cups full of coffee. Our morning sessions reflected our FY16 achievements and set our vision and mission for FY17. We reviewed each of our capability streams in the same format – achievements and learnings from FY16 and strategy and plans for FY17. The day was filled with lots of delicious food at morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea; which was catered by the incredible Humbling Eats.
It’s rare to have the whole team in one place, so we gathered for a group photo in our Mexia polos before getting back at it after lunch. The afternoon sessions were filled with exciting team project updates, welcoming new team members by presenting their Mexia shirts and breakout sessions.
When the agenda for #MexReady17 was issued, there was a line item for a Mystery Team Activity in the afternoon. We had no idea what this might be – only that we would need to wear comfortable shoes and warm clothes to protect us from the elements of Melbourne. We were excited to find out that we would be participating in Australia’s Amazing Race put on by Beyond the Boardroom. We grouped into teams of 4-5 and set out to the streets of Melbourne for a scavenger hunt and challenges all across the city. Some of our team had never been to Melbourne before, so this was a great way to see parts of the city and for all of us to get fresh air and stretch the legs. It also brought out some friendly competitive rivalry as we searched for iconic statues, wandered in graffiti covered laneways and had a cupcake eating contest!
By 5:30pm the formalities of the day were complete and it was time to raise a glass to Mexia, our incredible team and the year that was. We headed over to the beautiful Mon Bijou in the Adelphi Hotel to enjoy a few cocktails, bubbly and delicious food.
An endless thank you must go to our fantastic Danielle Glover who, among many other things, is an incredible party planner and events coordinator. She is wildly impressive with her attention to detail which ensures that all Mexia events are executed flawlessly with no stone unturned. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Another massive thank you to our Executive team – Dean, Mat and Calvin. Who have kept Mexia’s unparalleled company culture as a priority as we grow and continue these incredible events, which get better and better every year.
We all left the conference feeling ready to tackle FY17 and really proud to be a part of this amazing team! Another MexReady event for the history books!
